Hi,

I have a question about “Buy it now” auctions from Yahoo Japan.

1. If I buy 2 items from Yahoo using the “buy it now” option, will this be seen as an shop order?
Since it’s not an actual “auction”, cause I buy it right away.

2. My next question is, do I have to pay the commission fee of $10 once for the 2 items or do I have to pay 2x$10=$20?

3. And is there a difference with the commission fee if I buy the 2 items from one and the same seller or 1 item from seller A and the other item from seller B?

Thanks.

Hi there,

Using the buy-it-now still counts as an auction, and it is subject to the kuboTEN auction commission rate (7%/10%).

If the buy-it-now items are from the same seller and you purchase them within a few hours of eachother, we will only charge the $10 fee once.  If the buy-it-now items are from different sellers or are from the same seller but with more than 24 hours time between purchases, then the $10 fee will be charged for each item.

Thanks for the questions!  We’ll be updating our FAQ with this buy-it-now information soon.

What is the final ruling on this?  I notice it never made it into the FAQ.  I’ve been posting about my experiences with KuboTEN on some of the sports card trading forums I use, but my general advice is that the service isn’t cost effective when ordering single cards (which are usually under 1000 yen) as the fees would more than double the cost of the item.

But if we were able to order perhaps a dozen fixed price individual cards from the same seller and were only charged the one $10 fee per seller, that might change how readily people might use KuboTEN.

Thanks!

Jason

Hi Jason,

The ruling as stated above is our current policy—that the $10 fee is charged only once as long as auctions end within 24 hours of eachother from first auction to last.

When our new system is implemented, we will likely be changing the policy to something like 1000 yen for the first auction then 100 yen for subsequent auctions basic fee.  This is not yet set in stone, but is probably the way we will be going.

Ok, that greatly how I recommend the site and makes a much better case for being able to order multiple single cards from the same seller.  Thanks for the confirmation, I shall continue to sing your praises!

if the items are from the same seller but are still won by bidding and all other requirements are satisfied is it only one 1000 yen fee charged?

Yes, that is correct—if bidding on multiple items from the same seller ending within about a 24 hour period the $10 basic fee is charged only once.

Hello,
I want to buy a headphone in yahoo auction, that ends in 3 days. KuboTEN will my bid 24 hours before the auction-end.

Is it possible to place my bid just minutes before the end or generally it will be made some hours before???
It would be not so much successful, I think…

Best regards
kiwo

Hi Kiwo,

Thanks for your question!  With our current system, we can not guarantee bidding “snipes” just minutes/seconds before the end of an auction as all our bids are currently entered manually by a kuboTEN representative.

One thing to note with Yahoo Japan Auctions, however, is that almost every auction has an auto time extension, where any bid placed in the final 5 minutes makes the auction ending time increase by another 5 minutes.  So if a bid is placed and the auction has 3 minutes remaining, it automatically extends to 8 minutes remaining.  In this sense, there is no way to actually “snipe” a bid on Yahoo Japan Auctions.

We are currently working on our (much delayed) new website which will allow customers to send bids in real-time—so you can send a bid and it will get entered automatically at the moment you send it.

Thank you for a quick reply, Craig. I know these problems with last minute bid at yahoo, but I can imagine, that my bid has more chances, if you place it in the last 20-30-40 minutes and not perhaps 20 hours before.
Thanks, I will see what happen’ s and make a bid. The auction is in two days.
